Strike up the band! Volunteer students from Tech High School kicked off the ceremony by playing the national anthem. Community members, staff, students and parents showed their support and pride in a new Tech High School.
Superintendent Willie Jett thanked builders, architects, community partners and the high school task force for bringing about the historical event.
"We have a saying, 742Proud, but today we can say we are TechProud," describes Jett.
Board chair Al Dahlgren added that the 21st century learning will shape the future of students and the community of St. Cloud.
Principal Charlie Eisenreich looked back at the process which lead to the historic event and thanked the community for their support. While Tech student, Brady Pederson, spoke on how a new high school will shape his future and that of his younger sibling and classmates.
A special thanks to Mayor Dave Kleis for reflection on the past. Looking back 100 years ago to the staff and board that broke ground on the current high school. He believes, "Cities do not do well unless there is a strong educational system and a commitment to students."
T-I-G-E-R-S and the Tech fight song finished off the evening with cheers from the crowd.
