Immunization Information

August 21, 2017

Recent news in Minnesota has highlighted the importance of immunizations to protect our schools and our community from diseases that can be safely controlled through proper health care. St. Cloud Area School District has a responsibility to require parents/guardians to comply with Minnesota State Statute (121A.15) and School Board Policy 530, which state no student may enroll or remain enrolled in any preschool, elementary, or secondary school without the parent/guardian submitting documentation to the building administrator/school nurse showing the student has:

  1. Completed required immunizations or is in progress of completing them as required by Minnesota State Statute,
    OR
  2. Provided a statement of medical exemption signed by a medical provider,
    OR
  3. Provided a notarized statement of conscientious objection to all or to specific immunizations.

The above statute and School Board Policy require that all students in the St. Cloud Area School District be fully immunized to the mandated immunizations as determined by the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) or meet one of the above exemptions.   Prior to the first date of attendance, the student or the student’s parent/guardian shall provide the appropriate documentation that meets the requirements of the statute and School Board Policy.  If the documentation is not provided, the parent/guardian may be contacted and the student excluded from school until such documentation is provided.

If there is an outbreak of a disease that requires immunization under Minnesota State Statute (121A.15) and School Board Policy 530, students who have been exposed and are not immunized may be excluded from school by the Minnesota Department of Health until it is safe for them to return.

If a child in your care is enrolled in St. Cloud Area School District and they are not fully immunized, you will receive a letter in the near future identifying what immunization(s) the child is missing.  The letter will direct you to contact the child’s medical provider to clarify the immunization record the school has on file, or to receive the necessary immunization(s).  If you receive a letter, please respond promptly by contacting the medical provider and submit appropriate documentation to the building administrator/school nurse.

St. Cloud Area School District would like to thank you in advance for your efforts to support safe and health schools by complying with Minnesota State Statute (121A.15) and School Board Policy 530.
