Theisen Brothers Take National Title

Lucas and Jacob Theisen competed in Tulsa, Oklahoma at the USA BMX National Finals. They competed in the Race Of Champions (ROC), an “invite only” race for the top 10 kids from each state. Jacob raced in Class with 80 riders and Cruiser (43 riders), finishing third in both. Lucas raced in Class with 78 other kids, in Cruiser (41 riders), and the age 11/12 Open (80 riders) and won all three events!

Both boys competed in the National Finals for Class, Cruiser and Opens. Lucas had a birthday last week, so he competed as a 13-year-old for that race. (For the ROC race, they compete based upon their age on September 1 when most state finals have concluded.) Both boys were on the younger age for the Open races and were eliminated in the semi-finals. In Class, Lucas was eliminated in the semi-finals, but Jacob earned fifth place (against 86 riders). On their Cruiser bikes, both Jacob and Lucas won the national finals! They each earned a NAG 1 plate (National Age Group Champion) which is given to the top rider in their age group. Jacob is the 11-year-old Cruiser champion, and Lucas is the 13-year-old Cruiser champion. Jacob also earned NAG 2 in Class and Lucas earned NAG 3 in Class.

In the photos, the gray plates are NAG plates and the black plates are the National plates. While the NAG plates refer only to their age group, the National plates refer to their ranking among all male Cruiser riders of any age, and Jacob earned National #4 while Lucas earned National #7.

Next up for the Theisen brothers is attempting to qualify for the 2024 World Championships in Rock Hill, SC in May of 2024. They head to Florida in January to qualify. However, Jacob is already qualified on his Cruiser since he earned a World plate, top 8, at the World Championship in Scotland this year.
