Fall Middle School Athletic Activities

Fall Middle School Athletic Activities

2020-2021

The Minnesota State High School League recently released the fall plan for activities and our Middle School activities programs will closely follow their guidelines. As we planned for the upcoming season, our top priority is keeping our students and staff healthy and safe. Our safety plans will follow the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) guidelines as well as federal OSHA standards related to COVID-19.

Students in grades 7 and 8 who wish to participate this fall in Girls Swimming & Diving, Girls Tennis, Girls & Boys Cross Country, or Adaptive Soccer must register at their home high school (Kennedy/North students at Apollo and South students at Tech).

A physical is required for all students in grades 7 – 8 participating in athletics. The physical will become part of the student’s records and is good for three years.

Girls & Boys Soccer Grades 6 - 8

Due to our middle schools implementing a hybrid learning and teaching model, students will attend school in-person two days per week and learn from home three days per week. Participants in girls and boys soccer will only participate on days of in-person school, either on “A” day or “B” day. Students will not practice on days they are not in school. No soccer on Fridays.

Students who wish to participate in Girls or Boys Soccer should register at their school. You can obtain registration forms in the main office. Forms must be signed by a parent/guardian and returned to the office prior to September 14.

Season begins: Group A - Monday, September 14, Group B – Tuesday, September 15

Fee: $40.00 & $10.00 for students on Free/Reduced Lunches

North & South Practice: 4:00 – 5:30 p.m.

Kennedy Practice: 2:15 – 4:00 p.m.

Location: Middle School

Volleyball and Football Grades 7 & 8

As part of the MSHSL guidelines, the usual fall seasons for high school volleyball and football have been moved to the spring, beginning March 15, 2021. As part of the guidelines, high school volleyball and football can practice September 14 – October 3. This allows us a unique opportunity to connect our middle level volleyball and football athletes and coaches with the high school. Grades 7 and 8 participants in volleyball and football will be allowed to take part in their home high school practices at Apollo and Tech respectively.

Participants in volleyball and football will only participate on days of in-person school, either on “A” day or “B” day. Students will not practice on days they are not in school. Students will ride the after-school activity bus to their respective high schools. No practice on Fridays.

Students who wish to participate in volleyball or football should register at their school. You can obtain registration forms in the main office. Forms must be signed by a parent/guardian and returned to the office prior to September 14.
