LEAF Receives $10,000 to Support Student Learning During Summer

District 742 Local Education & Activities Foundation (LEAF) announced that it has received a $5,000 grant from the Central Minnesota Community Foundation COVID-19 Response Fund in support of the District 742 PAKRAT/PAKCAT Summer Programs, as well as a $5,000 gift from Stearns Bank and other individual gifts for the same purpose.

PAKRAT (Partners And Kids Learning Alot Together) and PAKCAT (Partners And Kids Counting Alot Together) are District 742 school year and summertime programs to help young learners have access to quality learning materials year-round. Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, LEAF is unable to run our normal summertime program where books are checked out to students throughout the District through the Roll & Read PAKRAT Bus and then returned the next week. Instead, LEAF plans to distribute books and math materials to students/families that they can keep - and has raised funds to allow that to happen. Look for the PAKRAT/PAKCAT Bus Schedule on the District website sometime after the July 4 Holiday.

Quality literature (PAKRAT) and math concept materials (PAKCAT) will be distributed beginning in mid-July through a distribution schedule yet to be determined. The PAKRAT/PAKCAT bus will make stops and Boys & Girls Club locations and in key areas of District 742 where larger concentrations of students live. Parents are encouraged to watch the District 742 web page for the bus schedule dates and times.

Any donors who wish to contribute to this effort can still do so by making their tax-deductible contribution online at www.leaf742.org or send a check, made out to “LEAF” to PO Box 1132, St. Cloud, MN 56302.
