Pen Pal Volunteer Program Receives Donation From Optimist Clubs
November 1, 2018
The Central Minnesota Morning and Noon Optimist Clubs have each made a generous $500 donation totaling $1,000 in contributions to the District 742 Pen Pal Volunteer Program. The funds will allow the Pen Pal program to be added at additional district elementary sites which will grow the number of classrooms and students served. Donated funds will also be used for mailing supplies needed to support letter writing and correspondence between volunteers and students throughout the 2018-19 school year.
The purpose of the optimist club is to:
To develop Optimism as a philosophy of life as stated in the Optimist Creed;
To promote an active interest in good government and civic affairs;
To inspire respect for law;
To promote patriotism and work for international accord and friendship among all people;
To aid and encourage the development of youth, in the belief that the giving of one's self in service to others will advance the well-being of humankind, community life and the world.
The Pen Pal program serves students in District 742 elementary schools. Correspondence will be sent between volunteers and students through letters that are mailed starting in fall 2018 and running throughout the school year. The program provides an opportunity to enhance communication skills and engages students in the activities of letter writing and handwriting. Read more about the Pen Pal program.
