McKinley-ALC Students Form Action Team

Students from McKinley-ALC toured Pattison Farm in St. Cloud. They learned about entrepreneurship, green gardening and a historical perspective of the century-old farm from the owner Dave Morreim. The students were able to choose appropriate flowers to plant in the McKinley-ALC Community Peace Garden. They worked together as a team to plan and plant flowers in the garden utilizing information provided by Morreim regarding plant characteristics and design considerations. The students and staff participating were: Zak A-Farah, Jade Chandler, Nick Graveen, Hunter Hipp, Zak Hussein, Logan LaRoche, Isaiah Loehrer, Justin Madland, Megan Maske, Freedom Olson, Meredith Overman, Tyler Plogger, Isaac Schlenker, Angel Spano-Shepard, Araya Treetop, Erica Heath, Danielle Lahr, Dave Masters and Cyndi Simson.

This event was the culmination of five service projects made possible by a Local Education & Activities Foundation (LEAF) grant and partnerships with the City of St. Cloud and area non-profits. The McKinley-ALC Action Team was able to plan and implement several service learning projects in conjunction with science, and career and technical education (CTE); including tech Ed, business and work experience departments throughout the school year. Other projects included Munsinger Gardens seedling planting, St. Cloud Park & Rec Heritage Park Tree Planting, and Habitat for Humanity Landscaping Project. Other students participating were: Naje Cook, Cali Zimpel, Skyler Larsen, Reggie Cobb, Caine Denbrook and Janessa Eustice.
