Apollo and Tech Top Ten Students

On Tuesday, May 29, the Board of Education and School Administrators recognized the 'Top Ten' students of the 2018 graduating class. Congratulations to our 'Top Ten' and all 2018 graduates!

 Apollo High School

Jenna Blommel Jenna Blommel

Jenna is the daughter of Jane and Scott Blommel. Jenna’s activities while attending Apollo High School have included orchestra, Link Crew, Green Club, We Act and theatre. She was secretary of the Apollo Student Union and vice president of the National Honor Society. Jenna plans to attend Concordia College in St. Paul to major in psychology.

Will Clark

Will is the son of Scott and Michelle Clark. While attending Apollo High School, Will was a member of the Link Crew, National Honor Society, Green Club and Spanish Club. Will plans to attend the University of Minnesota- Twin Cities to major in nursing.

Kelsey Conrad Kelsey Conrad

Kelsey is the daughter of Pat Conrad and Greg Conrad. Kelsey’s activities at Apollo included track and American Sign Language Club. She lettered in National Honor Society and was captain of the speech team.  Kelsey was also a Student of the Month. She plans to attend St. Cloud State University and then the University of Minnesota to major in mortuary science.

Nicholas Duncanson Nicholas Duncanson

Nicholas is the son of Kim and Mark Duncanson. While attending Apollo, Nicholas was captain of the Knowledge Bowl Team. He played varsity tennis and was a member of the National Honor Society, German Club and Spanish Club. He participated in orchestra, Health Careers and was named a Student of Excellence by Resource Training & Solutions. Nicholas plans to attend the University of Minnesota- Twin Cities majoring in psychology.

Wil Eckhoff Wil Eckhoff

Wil is the son of Jane and Peter Eckhoff. Wil played violin in Apollo’s orchestra, lettering and participating in the Central Lakes Conference Orchestra. He earned two letters in tennis, was treasurer of the National Honor Society and captain of the Knowledge Bowl Team. Wil was also a member of the German Club, Green Club and Spanish Club. He participated in the German Exchange Program. Wil was a Resource Training & Solutions Student of Excellence. He plans to attend the University of Minnesota- Twin Cities majoring in biology.

   
Anne Hackenmueller Anne Hackenmueller

Anne is the daughter of Craig and Sandy Hackenmueller. Her activities while attending Apollo have included volleyball, basketball, track and field, Link Crew, jazz band, concert choir, chamber choir and theatre. She was vice president of the Symphonic Band this past year and captain of the track team. She lettered in National Honor Society, as well as volleyball, basketball and track. Anne was a Junior Rotarian. She plans to attend the University of Northwestern in St. Paul majoring in psychology and music.

Shaelyn Hilbrands Shaelyn Hilbrands

Shaelyn is the daughter of Lauralee and Dale Risch. While attending Apollo, Shaelyn’s activities included volleyball, basketball, trapshooting, band, theatre, and she was captain of the softball team. She was a member of the National Honor Society and Link Crew. Shaelyn participated in the Health Careers Exploration Program. She received an Honor Athlete Award, a Presidential Scholarship from St. Cloud State University and has been accepted into the Honors Program at SCSU.  She plans to attend St. Cloud State University to major in nursing.

Karli Hiltner Karli Hiltner

Karli is the daughter of Mike and DeNae Hiltner. Karlie was a two-year captain of the Apollo Girls’ Soccer Team, participating in All-Conference. She received a Scholar Athlete Award, two-year MVP Forward and four-year letter.  She was captain of the Apollo Track Team, lettering three years. She was also a Mock Trial captain, earning a three- year letter. Karli was a member of the Link Crew and National Honor Society. She was Apollo’s representative at the HOBY Leadership Conference. She is involved in the Ellie’s Army Service Group, which volunteers throughout the community. She also participates in the Central Minnesota Youth Soccer Association. Karli plans to attend the University of Minnesota- Twin Cities majoring in psychology.

Olivia is the daughter of Carolyn and Gary Skudlarek. While attending Apollo, Olivia participated in Link Crew, orchestra and volleyball. She was a member of the National Honor Society, Green Club, Spanish Club and Equity Club. Olivia plans to attend North Dakota State University to major in nursing.

Ian Sutton

Ian Sutton

Ian is the son of Aaron and Kristina Sutton. Ian’s activities at Apollo have included cross country running, track and field, concert choir, chamber choir, jazz band, soccer, drama and Link Crew. He was a member of an acapella group and was elected president of the Symphonic Band this year. Ian was a participant in Apollo’s Mock Crash. He was on the “A” honor roll every trimester through high school and took first place for Apollo in the American Mathematics Competition. Ian is a member of his church youth group and a camp counselor at Deeper Life Bible Camp. He is also involved in the Central Minnesota Youth for Christ Band of Brothers Youth Group, as well as Portable Audio, an art mentorship program for young musicians. Ian plans to attend St. Cloud Technical & Community College.  His major is undecided.

   
   

 Tech High School

Katie Amdahl Katie Amdahl

Katie is the daughter of Kirsten Doering and Kevin Amdahl. While attending Tech High School, Katie was a writer for the Montage and co-editor-in-chief for three years. She was a member of the chamber choir for four years, participating in All-Conference this past year. She was secretary of the National Honor Society, participated in We Act/Social Justice attending We Day for the past five years. She was a member of the Link Crew and a Junior Rotarian. Katie was a member of the Tech Tigerette Dance Team for five years, competing at the State level for four years and receiving All-Conference this past year. Katie has been a member of Ms. Melinda’s Dance Studio for 13 years. She volunteers at Bethlehem Lutheran Church and is a Sunday school teacher. She attended a mission trip to Detroit in 2015 and Belize in 2016. Katie plans to attend the University of Wisconsin in Madison to major in international business.

Sarah Damhof Sarah Damhof

Sarah is the daughter of Tim and Marlene Damhof. Sarah’s activities while attending Tech High School have included theatre, We Act, Link Crew, Youth as Resources, band and pep band. She was a member of the National Honor Society and Spanish Club. Sarah is a seventh-grade church confirmation guide. She plans to attend Luther College in Decorah, Iowa. Her major is undecided.

Courtney Donnelly Courtney Donnelly

Courtney is the daughter of Beth and Kevin Donnelly.  She was a member of the Tech High School Tennis Team for six years, playing varsity for five years and serving as senior captain. She played hockey for three years and was a member of the Tech Golf Team for five years serving as senior captain. Courtney was vice president of the National Honor Society. She participated in the Social Justice Club, Link Crew, wind ensemble, jazz band and Dixieland Band. Courtney is a Sunday school teacher, and has been on mission trips to Belize in 2016 and Los Angeles in 2017. She volunteers at the St. Cloud Hospital. Courtney plans to attend the University of Denver majoring in biochemistry.

Marit Engevik Marit Engevik

Marit is the daughter of Marshall and Lori Engevik. Marit’s activities at Tech have included band, jazz band, pep band, orchestra, chamber orchestra, drama/theater, Robotics Club and We Act/Social Justice. She was a member of the National Honor Society and Link Crew. She lettered in and received a Leadership Award in robotics, as well as Superior ratings in Orchestra Solo and Ensemble Contest. She also lettered in band, orchestra, National Honor Society and drama. Marit participates in her church worship team, Children’s Ministry and Youth Group. She plans to attend Bethel University to major in applied physics.

Camryn Hafner Camryn Hafner

Camryn is the daughter of Laurin Hafner and Rona Karasik. Camryn was the captain of the Tech High School Drama Club, as well as student director. She was a member of the National Honor Society and Spanish Club, and participated in We Act, band, orchestra, pep band and chamber orchestra. Camryn is a National Merit Commended Scholar. She is a member of the Board of the St. Cloud Area Jewish Community. Camryn plans to attend either the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities or the University of Connecticut. Her major is undecided. 

Gabriela Hennes Gabriela Hennes

Gabriela is the daughter of Maria and Scott Hennes. Gabriela was captain of the Tech Varsity Cross Country Team, receiving All-Conference and Honorable Mention. She was captain of the Varsity Nordic Skiing Team, participating in All-Conference and State. Gabriela also served as captain of Varsity Track and Field.  She was a member of the Tech Student Council, National Honor Society and Link Crew. She served as vice-chair of the St. Cloud Youth Commission and volunteers for Big Brothers Big Sisters and the Salvation Army. Gabriela plans to attend Montana State University majoring in environmental design.

Raiyan Mahbub Raiyan Mahbub

Raiyan is the son of Md Mahbub Hossain and Salma Rahman. While attending Tech, Raiyan was captain of the Math Team and a member of the National Honor Society, Link Crew and the Speech Team. Raiyan was manager of Varsity Soccer. He participated in All-Conference and the Central Lakes Conference Math Competition. He placed second in the Heartland Economics Challenge, College Level Adam Smith Division. Raiyan volunteers at the St. Cloud Hospital and is a teacher assistant in the District 742 Summer Volunteer Program. He plans to attend the University of Minnesota- Twin Cities to major in computer engineering.

Kendra Nusbaum Kendra Nusbaum

Kendra is the daughter of Steve and Denise Nusbaum. Kendra was a three- sport athlete at Tech High School. She was captain of both girls’ golf and Nordic ski.  Kendra was president of the National Honor Society and co-editor-in-chief of the Montage. She participated in Link Crew, HOSA, SADD, Social Justice and was a Junior Kiwanian. She is a Spirit and Saints Faith Formation volunteer and also volunteers at the St. Benedict Community Center. Kendra plans to attend Winona State University majoring in nursing.

Melissa Prom Melissa Prom

Melissa is the daughter of Chuck and Kelly Prom. Melissa was vice president of Tech’s Student Council this year. She was a member of the National Honor Society. Melissa participated in Health Occupations Students of America, placing third in State in 2017 and second in State in 2018. She was also a member of the girls’ tennis team and lettered in girls’ lacrosse. Melissa is an AP Scholar. She volunteers at the St. Benedict’s Senior Community Center and did a job shadow at the St. Cloud Hospital. Melissa plans to attend the University of Minnesota- Twin Cities to major in biology.

Katelyn Tarrolly  Katelyn Tarrolly

Katelyn is the daughter of Bryan and Pam Tarrolly. While attending Tech, Katelyn has participated in Montage, SADD, Captain Leadership Committee and Link Crew. She was a member of the Honor Roll and National Honor Society. She has also spent time volunteering at the Country Manor Nursing Home and the St. Cloud Hospital.  Katelyn was a participant in the MN State Economics Meet. She has received the Tech Scholar Athlete Award, All-State Scholar Athlete Award, Resource Training & Solutions Student of Excellence Award, USTA Sportsmanship Award and the CLC Team Gold Scholar Athlete Award. Katelyn is a two-time girls’ varsity tennis captain, five-time CLC All-Conference Tennis Player, CLC Performer of the Week, KNSI Radio Player of the Week, St. Cloud Times Girls’ Athlete of the Week and St. Cloud Times All-Area Tennis Team recipient. She is a two-time Section 8AA Girls’ Tennis Singles Runner Up, three-time Section 8AA Girls’ Tennis Doubles Champion, five- time State Tennis Individual Participant, six-time State Tennis Team Participant, and two-time State Girls’ Tennis Doubles Runner-up. Katelyn currently holds the Tech record for most varsity wins in Tech girls’ tennis history (167 wins).  She also holds the record for most varsity matches played in Tech tennis history (209), the record for most matches in a single season (41) and the record for most wins in a season (35).  Katelyn will be attending the University of Minnesota Carlson School of Management Honors Program, where she is planning to major in International Business and Entrepreneurial Management, and minor in Business Law.
