Work Experience Letter to Parents
August 8, 2018
Dear McKinley ALC students:
Welcome to another school year! McKinley ALC has a Work Experience component where you can receive school credit for your job. If you want to receive school credit through the Work Experience program, you (and your parent/guardian if under 18) are invited to attend a program orientation.
You may attend this orientation session, which takes about 20 minutes, during the McKinley ALC Open House on:
Tuesday, August 28, 2018 from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at:
St. Cloud McKinley Area Learning Center
216 8th Ave N
Waite Park, MN 56387
(Enter Door # 1 and go to room 117)
The orientation session will cover program rules and responsibilities and a Career and Technical Education Program (CTE) Employability Agreement will be signed. This will allow the Work Experience Coordinator to conduct regular worksite visits throughout the school year to assess progress towards the training plan. If you cannot attend this session, please call. Orientations can be arranged individually during the school year as needed.
All students enrolled at McKinley ALC may receive career planning and occupational information through the Employability Skills Seminar (ESS) class. ESS students may be eligible for Work Experience Credit if approved. For worksite approval, jobs need to follow all state and federal regulations. There will be no hazardous jobs for students under the age of 18, such as construction and driving. For students of any age, jobs that are considered overly hazardous or deemed inappropriate for a high school program will not be accepted. Examples are: roofing, tree trimming, delivery with own vehicle, and serving alcohol. Copies of your paycheck stubs will verify hours worked, proof of wages paid, and taxes withheld.
I look forward to another school year and hope to see you! Please contact me at (320) 203-8470, ext 5661 with any questions.
Sincerely,
Cyndi Simson
Work Experience Coordinator
