March 31: Update from District 742 Activities Offices
As we navigate through these unpresented times due to the effect of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, we want to share an update from District 742 Activities Offices.
This is a severe and rapidly changing issue that affects everyone worldwide. Our focus continues to be on the health and safety of everyone associated with District 742, all our students, families, staff, the state of Minnesota, and our country. We cannot stress enough that everyone should follow the guidelines from local and national health experts during this time.
The Minnesota High School League has issued the following:
- All participation in MSHSL spring activities at all member schools is suspended.
- Participation includes, but is not limited to, competitions, training, practices, scrimmages, and contests.
Pending a reopening of schools by the Governor, return to participation protocols will be determined and communicated by the MSHSL Board and MSHSL staff.
The suspension of participation includes fine arts activities and athletics and the following events remain suspended indefinitely:
- Speech Section and State Tournaments
- Music Contests
- Visual Arts Competitions and State Festival
- MSHSL State Robotics Tournament
- MSHSL Clay Target State Tournament
No decisions regarding the cancellation of spring activities have been made at this time.
We understand that losing any of the Spring season is immensely disappointing to many, most notably our dedicated student-athletes, coaches and staff. We also know this step was necessary to combat the spread of this aggressive virus by limiting large gatherings.
It gives us incredible pride to let you know that our student-athletes, coaches and staff have shown great character and understanding about the importance of supporting the efforts to limit the effects of the coronavirus in this country. Many of our coaches have already reached out to their teams to continue team building, individual workouts, and just connecting with each other.
We will continue to provide updates and additional information as decisions are made. Stay safe, and we look forward to seeing you on the field or in the stands when competition resumes.
Thank you for your patience and understanding. GO EAGLES! TIGERS!
We Are All in This Together!
Sincerely,
Jared Ellerson and Dave Langerud
