Hooyo Hour at Discovery Community School

Hooyo Hour started in the Fall of the 2018-2019 school year by Ms Wilson, Ms Estrada and Hodan Omar.  The hour of the mother, as it is translated, is meant to bring together Somali mothers at Discovery school to discuss Social Emotional, Educational and Community topics of their choice. Hooyo Hour has a Fall, Winter and Spring session that has been well attended with topics such as SEL, school discipline, restorative practice, online learning tools and more!  Hooyo Hour Friday, April 9 was committed to supporting children's literacy development at home.  Author Hudda Ibrahim read her newly re-released dual language book, "What Color Is My Hijab?" and was able to answer related educational questions for Discovery hooyoyinka (mothers)!
