     5th Grade Orchestra
    Orchestra students need the text "String Basics: Book 1."  It is available  at Eckroth Music and Johnson's Violins.  Students receive two half hour lessons a week.  
     
    In the first year of study, students learn proper posture, care of the instrument, correct left and right hand position, simple rhythm patterns and songs in the key of D major.  There are two concerts, one in December and one in May, that students are perform the songs they have learned for family and friends.  
     
     
     6th Grade Orchestra
     Orchestra students need the text "String Basics: Book 1."  It is available  at Eckroth Music and Johnson's Violins.  Student's have orchestra every other day, alternating with Phy. Ed. Students also receive 4-5 small group lessons outside of the regular class during the trimester that is primarily used for assessment.
     
     In the second year of study, proper posture, instrument care, correct left and right hand position, simple rhythm patterns and the key of D major is reinforced.  New material includes G and C major, articulations (staccato, spiccato, legato, accents, slurs), more complex rhythm patterns and more complicated repertoire including multi-part playing.  Music vocabulary is introduced and reinforced throughout the school year.
