Debra Jokela, Elementary Principal

  • Debra Jokela Deb Jokela has worked in education since 1987 when she began her teaching career after graduating from Minnesota State University Moorhead. Since that time she has gone on to pursue her master’s in Educational Leadership at St. Mary’s University, where she went on to earn degrees in K-12 Administration and Director of Special Education. Jokela has a passion for helping students and her experience with curriculum, instruction and social emotional learning will be instrumental in building strong relationships with the people she works with. She brings a positive, proactive approach to her work with staff, families and students. She is thrilled to serve as the new Distance Learning Academy Elementary Principal.

    Jokela has worked in Elementary, Middle and High Schools throughout her career as a classroom and special education teacher, although the majority of her experiences have been at the elementary level. Deb has worked in the St. Cloud Area Schools since 2012. The last four years have been at Oak Hill Community School where she has served as the Assistant Principal.

    Deb has been married for 28 years to her husband Pete, and they have three children who are all in college. Throughout the years their family has travelled west as often as possible to enjoy skiing, hiking and general adventuring. Deb likes to read, cook, hike, go to concerts and watch movies.

Heather Ebnet, Secondary Principal

  • Heather Ebnet Heather Ebnet is excited to begin her first year serving the Distance Learning Academy and her 18th in the St. Cloud Area School District. Ebnet began her career as a teacher at Talahi Community School and has since served at Discovery and Madison as well. Most recently she served as the Assistant Principal at North Junior High. She is passionate about helping students exceed their potential academically, socially and emotionally. Her strengths include building relationships with students, staff and families.

    Outside of school, Ebnet spends time with her husband and two sons in addition to her extended family and friends. She enjoys going to concerts, sporting events and watching movies. You may also find her going for a run with her best friend most days after school.

    Ebnet is excited to embark on her first year as Secondary Principal at Distance Learning Academy. She is committed to providing each student, family and staff member at the Distance Learning Academy the best learning experience possible! 742 Proud!
