Orchestra Overview

    Elementary Orchestra Intermediate – Grade 6
    o Violin, Viola, Cello and Bass
    o Recruitment begins in the spring of the students’ 4th grade year
    o The orchestra teachers assess students to match the student with instruments size that he/she will most likely be successful.
    o Instruction begins fall of the 5th grade year
    o Lessons occur during the school day

    Middle School Orchestra Grades 7-8
    o Prerequisite: Two years of orchestra for 7th grade. Three years of orchestra for 8th grade or by audition
    o Violin, Viola, Cello and Bass
    o 7th graders are together and 8th graders are together
    o Large group orchestra meets 2-3 times per week and is part of the students regular class schedule
    o Individual or small group lessons during the day – pull out of classes
    o Other ensembles may be available

    High School Orchestra Grades 9-12
    o Prerequisite: Four years of orchestra or by audition
    o Violin, Viola, Cello and Bass
    o 9th graders are together.
    o Upper grade orchestras are by audition and/or director approval
    o Orchestra class meets 2 to 5 times per week depending on the ensemble and is part of the students regular class schedule
    o Individual or small group lessons during the day – pull out of classes
    Other ensembles may be available
