Devin J. - Devin fell behind in credits at his local high school and chose to attend the McKinley Area Learning Center. While enrolled he joined the YouthBuild Program, Devin had little experience in construction, but had a desire to learn. Devin's ability to read a tape measure and cut precisely aided in the overall quality of the sheds we constructed this summer. Devin often commented," I really enjoy building stuff!" Devin used the credits earned in YouthBuild this past summer, to graduate from High School and plans to enroll at the St Cloud Technical & Community College in the Electrician's Program starting in January 2015.
Jesus M. - Jesus came to the McKinley Area Learning Center due to attendance issues at his former High School. While at the ALC Jesus enrolled in the YouthBuild Program, he was later selected to be in the summer crew. Jesus had excellent attendance 98% and came to work with a positive attitude. His excellent communication skills and calm manner, allowed him to work well with his peers. During the tour of the 49ers Apprenticeship Program, Jesus had an opportunity to drive a Backhoe; the 49ers instructor commented "he's a natural" at driving such a complex machine. Jesus stated "YouthBuild definitely influenced me to take a look at the construction trade fields as a future career.
