In June of 2014, St. Cloud Area School District 742 Community Education and Early Childhood programs became homeless after a lightning strike burned to the ground the old Roosevelt School on Third Street North in St. Cloud. The programs then moved to temporary space at Discovery Community School in Waite Park and at the Colts Academy preschool site in St. Joseph.
By fall of 2016, concept planning and cost analysis began for a new building for Community Education and Early Childhood at the Discovery site in Waite Park. As the process evolved, RA Morton compiled a construction schedule, taking into account the occupancy requirements of the School District, the duration of the construction process, and the length of time that the bidding process would require. The School Board approved a call for bids on February 8, 2017.
In March, the opening of bids for all construction divisions took place, and RA Morton tabulated and audited the bids. The audit showed the project was under budget by more than one million dollars. The School Board approved the results on March 23, 2017, and contract awards took place immediately after School Board approval. The project officially broke ground on April 26, 2017.
The project has been under construction for three months and is tracking within one week of the original schedule. As with all projects, opportunities arise that the Construction Manager reviews, shares with the School District, and provides solutions to all personnel involved.
During this period, a community naming committee was formed for the new building. It is now known officially as Quarryview Education Center.
