I have been a teacher for 28 years and 23 of those years have been in the St. Cloud School District. During the years in St. Cloud, I have been a teacher in various subject areas. I started out in the district as a special education teacher at Apollo High School. I then transferred to Tech High School to become a Work Experience Teacher. I taught at Tech for 8 years. I then transferred to Lincoln Elementary to teach physical education. I taught at Lincoln for 2 years before moving to South Junior High and teaching physical education there for 3 years. I finally came back to Apollo High School where it all started for me in this district. I am currently a work experience coordinator and love working with the students and staff here at Apollo High School.
In the work experience program, students are able to earn 2 elective credits for working a minimum of 10 hours per week and they will receive 1 credit for participating in the class and completing all the required assignments. Students are required to complete safety training and have the individual Training Agreement signed by student, parent/guardian, training sponsor, and teacher prior to being released from school to work. Students will meet with the Work-Based Learning Coordinator weekly to complete assignments in the areas of safety, job attainment, soft skills, communication, leadership, career exploration, and work habits.
Students are responsible for finding employment and once employed they are expected to remain employed for the remainder of the time they are in the work experience program. Students whose employment is terminated or quit without apporval from the coordinator may not earn credit. Those struggling to find employment independently may qualify for job training programs or other community resources as well as meeting with me on an individual basis to receive additional help.
