Ms. Joy Birr

I am the special education teacher in the Young Learners Program, a specialized day treatment program for students ages 3-6 years of age.  I have been fortunate to be part of this child focused program since 2007.  Our focus is to teach regulation techniques and social skills necessary in the school environment.  We pride our team on meeting each student where they are at and adapting our environment and teaching styles to what the child needs to gain necessary skills to rejoin their peers in a typical school environment.  We are fortunate to work closely with the Young Learners Program staff from Catholic Charities, who provide individual skills and therapy, family skills or therapy, group therapy and school support.

My professional training includes a Bachelor of Science degree in Applied Psychology and a Master of Science degree in Early Childhood Special Education.  Additional specialized training includes: Crisis Prevention Institute and Heather Forbes-Beyond Consequences.  I have served on committees in education and within the community with a special interest in twice exceptional students.  Twice exceptional students are students with exceptional talents or abilities that have a coexisting condition that makes school or school work difficult.
