Michael Rivard, Principal
Mike Rivard returns to Oak Hill Community School this year as Principal. This will be his fifth year at Oak Hill having served as Assistant Principal during the previous four years. Mr. Rivard has worked in the St. Cloud Area School District for 22 years. He earned his Bachelor's Degree at St. Cloud State University and Master's Degree from the University of Minnesota. His Educational Administration Licensures as a Principal and Special Education Director were obtained at SCSU.
Mr. Rivard finds great joy in seeing each student grow academically and especially appreciates working with students and their families in creating a welcoming and respectful environment at Oak Hill. As a school leader, Mr. Rivard strives to highlight the hard work and professionalism of all Oak Hill staff members as they partner with families and community members. With such a great team at home, school and in the community, Mr. Rivard believes every student can succeed!
Mr. Rivard spends the majority of his free time with this family. His wife, Tammy, is a 1st grade teacher in our school district and his children’s activities keeps their family busy.
Interesting tidbits about Mr. Rivard: He grew up in St. Paul, enlisted in the Army after high school and proudly served in the Army Reserves for eight years.
Debra Jokela, Assistant Principal
Deb Jokela has worked in education since 1987 when she began her teaching career after graduating from Minnesota State University Moorhead. Since that time she has gone on to pursue her master’s in Educational Leadership at St. Mary’s University, where she went on to earn degrees in K-12 Administration and Director of Special Education. Her teaching experiences have been in the classroom as a teacher of first and fourth grades, as well as Title Reading and Math Interventionist, K-12 Special Education and Academic Coach/Program Coordinator.
Jokela joined St. Cloud Area School District 742 in 2012 where she has worked as a Special Education Supervisor, Reading Corps Master Coach and ADSIS, K-3 Reading Intervention Coordinator. Since joining District 742, she has also served on multiple district level committees which have focused on supporting student growth and achievement.
Mrs. Jokela is thrilled to be at Oak Hill Community School! She looks forward to the many opportunities to work together with students, families and teachers in support of the District Mission to create a safe and caring climate and culture in which we prepare, engage, educate, empower and inspire all learners in partnership with their surrounding community to be successful in today’s and tomorrow’s society.
