St. Cloud Area School District 742 began the process of developing a new strategic plan in September of 2013. The district contracted with Transformation Systems, Ltd. to assist with the process.
In order for the plan to best reflect the vision of the community, District 742 invited parents, students, staff and community members to participate in the process. The first opportunity to be involved came through the input process. A series of World Café sessions were held along with an online survey to solicit input. A summary of input from both sessions and the survey was provided to the core planning team.
The second opportunity to be involved was through serving as a member of one of the three teams; core planning team, measurement team and action planning team. 25 parents, students, staff and community members volunteered to serve on the core planning team. This team developed the draft strategic plan. The core planning team met six days between November 2013 and April 2014. Over 9 parents and staff members served on the measurement team. This team developed the measurement tools and structure to assess the implementation progress of the plan. This team met four days between December 2013 and March 2014. Over 30 people served on one of three action planning teams. An action planning team was designed for each of the three strategies included in the plan. These teams developed specific results and action steps for the three strategies. The action planning teams met five days between December 2013 and March 2014.
After the measurement and action planning completed their work, the core planning team met in March to review the materials to be included in the final documents submitted to the Superintendent and the school board.
The 2014-15 school year was the first year of implementation of the plan. At the end of each year of implementation, the core planning team will meet to review progress and to make any necessary adjustments to the plan. These annual reviews will be reported to the community.
