LEAF Announces Retired Educator's Fund
In an effort that is certainly unique among public education school districts, retired educators from District 742 have established a Retired Educators Legacy Fund with the District 742 Local Education & Activities Foundation (LEAF). The Fund will award grants to District 742 academic, activities, arts and athletic programs. As of January 15, 2016, a total of 105 retired educators have donated $26,676 over the past four years to create this Legacy Fund.
Legacy Funds can be established with LEAF by any individual or group who donates at least $25,000 in up to a 5-year period and wishes to direct the grant from their fund to either the general granting cycles or a specific program. A grant of 5 percent of the principal of a Legacy Fund is made to District 742 programs in the name of the donor annually. As the principal of the fund grows over the years, the total amount granted will continue to grow. The Retired Educators Fund becomes the 9th Legacy Fund that has been established with LEAF by individuals or organizations.
Additions to the Retired Educator’s Legacy Fund can be made by retired educators or any individual who wishes to make a donation in honor of, or in memory of, a favorite educator.
Any individual or organization interested in establishing a Legacy Fund with LEAF should contact the executive director at 320-253-5780 or bruce@leaf742.org. More information about the Retired Educator’s Fund, along with a listing of educators who have donated to set up this fund, as well as information on other LEAF Legacy Funds can be found on the LEAF web page: www.leaf742.org.
LEAF was founded in 1993 as a fully independent, non-profit organization for the purpose of promoting and enhancing school-based, extra-curricular activities and academic opportunities in District 742 Schools. LEAF’s endowment fund provides supplemental funding for academic, activities, arts and athletic programming in the district’s schools. Since 1996 LEAF has been able to contribute $1,254,231 to programs/projects in District 742.
