Partners in Education Awards Nov. 19

The District 742 Board of Education is pleased to announce the list of 'nominees' and 'honorees' for the 2009 Partners in Education Awards. The Partners in Education Awards ceremony will take place at a Community Linkages Forum from City Hall on Nov. 19 at 6:00 p.m. It will be broadcast on Charter Cable Television Channel 6. Staff Members Receive LEEA Award

Sixteen District 742 staff members were recognized for educational excellence at the Leadership in Educational Excellence Awards (LEEA). Deb Bendix, Kevin Beneke, Tiffany Erie, Jeb Gainey, Angela Haus, Karen Kruse, Beth Lovdahl, Nicole Palm, Joy Palmquist, Megan Pederson, Holly Pringle, Maureen Proell, Jean Sautner, Ben Thell, Steve Wagner and Teresa Wieneke were among the educators honored. Join Junior Tiger Preschool Gymnastics

Girls ages three through five are invited to join Junior Tiger Gymnastics. Classes are held in the Tech High School gymnastics room. This four session class begins Nov. 18. View the flyer/registration form.

H1N1 Vaccine Information

The week of Oct. 19, students in the St. Cloud Area Schools, both public and non-public, will receive H1N1 vaccine clinic information packets. Benton and Stearns County Public Health will be working with area schools to provide school-based vaccine clinics. Sherburne County Public Health will provide community-based vaccine clinics for children at Talahi and Clearview elementary schools. Vaccine clinics will be held after NOVEMBER 9, 2009. Parents will be notified a few days before the specific date for their child’s school/community clinic. The vaccine will be provided free of charge to students. MN Department of Health Offers FluLine

Minnesota FluLine is now available to offer support and treatment options for people with possible symptoms of influenza. Minnesotans with flu symptoms can call toll-free line at 1-866-259-4655. View the full news release.

Register for Beauty Boot Camp

Don't let the name fool you. Using upbeat techniques, this class will teach today's etiquette, age appropriate skin care, healthy lifestyle habits, and the basics of becoming a young lady. All while building confidence and self-esteem, through the true beauty found within. This five session class begins Nov. 9. View the flyer for more information. North Presents A Midsummer Night's Dream

North Junior High students will give three performances of A Midsummer Night's Dream. Shows are Nov. 13 through Nov. 15 in the school's little theatre. The Friday and Saturday shows are at 7 p.m. The Sunday show is 3 p.m. Tickets are available at the door. Adults are $5. Students and seniors are $3. View the flyer.

Register for Financial Aid and College Prep Seminars

In collaboration with Fast Forward, Access & Opportunity and Upward Bound programs, any interested students in grades seven through 12 and their families are invited to attend one or both of these sessions. In Financial Aid 101, learn about the many types of financial assistance for college and how to write a winning college scholarship essay. In College Prep 101, learn how to help your child prepare for post-secondary education and what you as a student can do now to prepare for college. These events are free to you and your family. However, pre-registration is required for each event. Click on the links above for more information.

Outdoor Rink Rat Hockey

This is an opportunity for boys and girls ages pre-school through sixth-grade to play and experience a great game with your friends. Program begins Dec. 6. Sunday sessions will emphasize skill development while enjoying the outdoors. Mondays will feature cross ice games. Required equipment includes: skates, helmet (with full mask), mouth guard (will be supplied for you), elbow and shin pads. Optional equipment includes: breezers, shoulder pads and hockey gloves. All players will receive a jersey and mouth guard. The final game day will be held at the National Hockey Center on Feb. 15. Days where sessions cannot be held outside due to weather will be held at the McKinley Ed Center. Register online at St. Cloud Community Education.

American Indian Heritage Month

In November we salute all of the members of federally recognized tribes and Indian communities. Indians have made, and are making, profound contributions to American life. At the Board of Education meeting held on Sept. 24, the Board approved the 2008-09 Annual Report on Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment. Click here to see the report.

Students: ACT and SAT Registration Underway

Seniors and juniors interested in post-secondary education should consider taking the ACT exam or the SAT exam. The tests provide the test-taker with feedback about academic strengths and weaknesses. They also are used by colleges and universities in the application and acceptance process. Visit the ACT and SAT web sites for registration deadlines, test dates and practice tests.

Community Ed Classes: Register Today

District 742 is offering an amazing array of fall classes. Community Education's fall course catalog was mailed to District 742 residents Sept. 14. Online registration began Sept. 3 at http://stcloudcommunityed.com.

Environmental Health and Safety Notification

St. Cloud Area Schools has an annual notification on three Environmental Health & Safety topics for parents, guardians and district staff. The topics are Asbestos, Pesticide Usage and Indoor Air Quality. Click here to view the notification.

These non-partisan groups of parents and citizens encourage action and advocacy for improved education funding for our children. Families and staff have the ability to make secure online food account payments 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, using PayForIt.net. To set up an account you need a valid e-mail address, a credit card (Visa or Mastercard only) and your child's PIN number. Each child in your family can be set up on the same account. Money added to the account typically displays in less than 24 hours. You can also set up e-mail reminders to notify you when the account balance gets low or you can set up recurring payments.

Schoolink Welcome Center is located in the Roosevelt Early Childhood Center. The Welcome Center is a place for families new to our community to register their children for any District 742 school and also receive the help, services, and referrals they need to get students ready to enter school. District 742 Advanced Placement Program

Advanced Placement (AP) is an internationally recognized program that provides opportunities for students to experience college-level academics while enrolled in high school. Students are able to earn college credit for an AP course if they pass the exam given in the spring. Students in District 742 have a wide variety of AP choices.
